Surfing in Madeira

Madeira enjoys a mild climate all year round, and given its location in the middle of the Atlantic, there is no shortage of waves 12 months of the year.
There are spots for advanced and professional surfers, such as Paul do Mar, and spots for beginners/intermediate surfers, such as São Vicente or Porto da Cruz.

Madeira Due to its location in the Atlantic Ocean, Madeira is considered the European Hawaii par excellence. It offers spots for beginners and professionals.

 

 

 

 

MADEIRA's SPOTS

Alagoa

A small bay, only two minutes walk from the surf camp and surf school. Ideal for learning and giving surfing lessons, as it is protected from the big waves.

 

Maiata

It is located about ten minutes from the surf camp. It is the largest and most beautiful sandy beach in Madeira, with waves of up to 2 metres.

 

Giardino di Mar

It is the most famous wave in the Portuguese archipelago of Madeira. It is a powerful reef break on the right side that holds big waves (3.5m+). It is a world class wave that attracts big surfers. Jardin do mar is surfed at low tide.

 

Ponta Pequena 

Not far from Jardin, this is an empty and powerful point break. Not a wave for beginner surfers, it runs very well. 

 

Sao Vicente

Potente ola en un acantilado. Rueda a izquierda y derecha. Nivel avanzado.

 

Ribeira da Janela 

Another left in reef mode. It is an empty and fast wave. Advanced level

 

Paolo Do Mar 

A little further west, you come right onto a slab of rock reserved for surfers with a good level of surfing.
